CHENNAI: Actor 'Power Star' Srinivasan was on Friday arrested on charges of cheating a businessman of Rs 65 lakh.

He was arrested on a complaint from G U Balasubramanian, proprietor of RBS International in Chrompet, to city police Commissioner J K Tripathy that the actor had taken the money after promising to get him a 10 crore loan. Balasubramanian said he never got the loan.

Police said Balasubramanian had approached the actor's finance company, Baba Trading, on Poonamalle High Road to arrange the cash to help him expand his business six months ago. Sasikumar's new film runs into title trouble

A stay order has been issued against the use of the title of the film 'Sundarapandian', scheduled to release on September 14. The order follows a petition  filed in the city civil court by Jupiter Film Makers, who claim to have produced a movie with the same title way back in the ’90s.

Director Sasikumar plays the lead role in new film, which has newcomer Lakshmi Menon, Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in supporting roles. Sasikumar’s  Company Productions has produced the film.

A stay order was passed on Monday, following plaintiff Jupiter Film Makers’ claim that they had already made a film in 1998 with the same title, with Karthik, Heera, Vadievelu and Manivannan in important roles.

Director and producer of the Karthik-flick, Raghu, said, “We completed the film in 1998, but couldn’t release it then due to financial problems. But the movie released in 1999 on Deepavali day in a few centres like Salem, Tiruchy and Tanjore.”

Raghu claimed that he wanted to release the film in other centres and sell the satellite rights, when he came to know that Company Productions was making a movie with the same title.

“I tried several times to reach Sasikumar but couldn’t,” he said. Company Productions can either change the title or go for a compromise to avoid delay in releasing the film. Producer Sasikumar was not available for comment.

A dream come true

After trying his hand at 50 jobs and investing 10 years in the industry R. Ravi Lallin has finally managed to realise his dream — directing a film. No wonder then the director of Sillunnu Oru Sandhippu (SOS), starring Vimal, Dipa Shah and Oviya in the lead, is gung ho about the project and life.

“From manufacturing natural fertilizers to marketing apparel whiteners, I have done different things before coming to the film industry where after a 10-year struggle I have got an opportunity to direct a film. All through my life, direction has been my dream,” says Lallin, whose film has caught the attention of those in the industry for a variety of reasons.

SOS revolves around a wife who thinks life is all about giving up one’s desires for a loved one, and a husband, who cannot understand why one must give up one’s happiness to make a relationship last. He believes there will be no need for any sacrifices if two people on the same wavelength and on the same page choose to have a relationship. Vimal’s character has been showcased in two phases. In the first phase, he appears as a Standard 12 student. In the next, he plays a 25-year-old professional who has returned from the U.S. Dipa Shah plays Vimal’s wife in the film, while Oviya plays a Standard 12 student.”

The film is based on three separate incidents that the director has witnessed in his life. “One is a popular divorce case which was widely reported in the media. The other two are incidents that have taken place in the lives of my friends. A friend confessed to his wife about his earlier life after which their marriage was on the rocks. I have spun a story around all three incidents,” says Lallin, adding that this film will prove Vimal can handle urban-oriented roles as well as rural ones.

I will be back in "Rana", says Rajnikanth

Addressing his fans for the first time after being discharged from the hospital in Singapore where he was undergoing treatment Actor Rajinikanth swore that his goal would now be to entertain them. He also promised that he would appear in the K.S.Ravikumar film "Rana".

"I have no words to thank you," he said, in a hand written note released to the media. This he stated, after apologising for not having spoken to his fans earlier. In his characteristic enigmatic matter, he spoke of tossing a coin to determine who would play first. In the game that he had to play recently, the world’s top specialists and the latest medical technology were on one side, while his fans, and their prayers were on the other.

He expressed his (100 per cent) belief that it was the prayers that finally saved him. "You have showed the world how many people are fond of Rajini. If I am recovering now, it is because of all the love you people have showered on me. It is because you have considered me as a brother, a friend, as one in the family, and prayed for me," he reiterated.

"I will never forget your love…" the note in Tamil said. Also, "When I put pen to paper the words are eluding me," he said in an emotion-charged epistle.

Rajinikanth also mentioned that his first couple of calls had been to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who assured all support and help for him, and to his ‘friend,’ and former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi.
The actor had been hospitalised a couple of times in Isabel Hospital, and later, was admitted Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, earlier, before he left for Singapore with his family for treatment. It was said then that he had a lung infection, and problems with kidney function.

Viswaroopam – The tidbits!

There is always a lot of spice attached to any project which has Kamal’s name on it.

First, it was said Selvaraghavan will direct Kamal Haasan in his upcoming ‘Viswaroopam.’ We then had news flowing in that the director has opted out of the project citing time crunch! The next news to hit stands was that Kamal will take ‘Viswaroopam’ under his wing and take the director’s chair. In accordance with this we heard news that Sonakshi Sinha will act opposite Kamal in this thriller-flick.

Rumours are now doing the rounds that the Sinha girl will not be able to be a part of this project. The reasons that she has cited for opting out are, prior commitments. Now Kamal is believed to have invited the charming Vidya Balan to be a part of his project. But looks like Vidya too has declined the offer because of time factor, again!

Quite sometime back there were some reports on Shriya Saran being confirmed a birth in the project and the actress later brushing aside the news a rumour. But it looks like the leggy lass will find herself a role in this Kamal venture.

It was earlier said that ‘Viswaroopam’ is the remake of Hollywood’s ‘Hannibal,’ but they are now denied by sources close to the Viswaroopam team, who have reportedly revealed that the film will be something to the likes of the MI (Mission Impossible) series!

Wow! Kamal and thrillers do get along very well. We just hope this venture too is not different.

Trisha says adopting a stray dog can make one happy

Popular actress Trisha is like an angel to stray dogs. She is the brand ambassador of PETA. She is advising her fans to adopt the stray dogs who are homeless. She tells to adopt dogs that are homeless and become an angel.

Trisha interestingly tells that how she adopted her pet dog Cadbury. She while speaking about this said, "I met my Cadbury when I was going for a shooting in Hyderabad. I was going in a car. I saw a small puppy injured. It was not able to walk.

It was drenching in rain. I took this puppy and took him to a doctor and got it treated. It got well and started to come to the shooting spot everyday. It uses to accompany me wherever I go. One day it came to my house. I named him Cadbury and taking care of him everyday like a child. There are lots of dogs and cats struggling in India for their lives. Most of them are starving. Some gets injured or lose their lives because of accidents. The main reason is that they have no proper shelter. If we adopt these kinds of dogs and cats, we will be really happy."
