Alter Your life! By Altering Your Attitude!!

In many ways, we all are alike; however, one little difference almost always makes us a big difference. The little difference is attitude.

"The greatest discovery of this generation is that a human being can alter their life by altering their attitude." Over the years we have seen it happen countless times. What most people fail to realize is that your attitude not only impacts your happiness and your success, it also can impact the happiness and success of all the people around you...your family, your friends, and your peers at work. Attitudes truly are contagious, and from time to time we need to ask ourselves..."is mine worth catching?"

• Manage your energy levels
• Keep your soul alive
• Take new paths
• Reduce stress
• Develop the "Human Touch"
• Attack your fears
• Live in awe
• Savor small successes
• Burn brightly without burning out
• Hang on when the storms blow through

Homemakers fret over 6-cylinder cap

Lack of clarity on rate of non-subsidised cylinders and type of refills causes confusion For consumers in the city, there were more questions than answers as they tried to come to terms with the government’s decision to impose a six-cylinder-a-year-cap on subsidised cooking gas for households.

Making it difficult, even for distributors for much part of the day, was the lack of clarity and communication on various issues, particularly the rate of non-subsidised cylinders and the type of refills.

As per the government announcement, which came into force on Friday, “Any number of cylinders will be available over and above the cap of six cylinders a year at market rate.”

“As consumers we are in the dark,” said consumer activist T. Sadagopan, while pointing out that the number of cylinders being supplied to consumers is consistently on the decline. From a situation of plenty, a few years ago, the supplies were subsequently restricted using the mandatory 21-day gap between supplies of two refills.

Operational reasons also contributed and effectively not more than nine cylinders were supplied per household. Six cylinders a year, he said, were just not enough for a household. “What is the alternative? The power situation is bad and families with two cylinders are not eligible for PDS kerosene,” he said.
Officials of state-owned oil marketing companies and cooking gas distributors, however, said consumer reaction to the decision was muted. “They will react only when the pocket is hit,” an official of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said, adding that detailed instructions could be expected, on an industry basis, in a few days.

The consumers, an official of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) said, were unlikely to be affected immediately as they would be eligible for three subsidised cylinders till March-end.

The households, on exhausting their quota, would be supplied the same 14.2 kg cylinder, but at a price of around Rs. 750 per refill. The price would be subject to monthly revision, depending on international fuel prices, and since it is meant for use only by households, the excise duty exemption was expected to continue, the official said.

There is no value-added tax on domestic LPG in Tamil Nadu. Commercial cylinders (19 kg), on which excise duty and value-added tax are levied, cannot be supplied to domestic consumers as the focus is on faster turnaround of the equipment. From the consumer’s point of view, commercial cylinders would be expensive.

S. Kiran, a resident of Perambur, said: “It will be difficult for six of us to manage with just six cylinders a year. I am worried as I’ve used up five cylinders so far. I am thinking of using the induction stove and electric cooker more often to reduce usage of cooking gas.”

While this would increase electricity tariff bills, many residents said there was no other choice if the government decided to implement the decision.

Blue Book

Both IOC and BPCL instructed their distributors on Friday to insist on domestic gas consumer cards while supplying cylinders and make an entry in it before getting the customer’s signature. The card, a blue book, has details of cylinder supplies made. Distributors were also asked to maintain the cash memos.

Chennai Area president of All India Indane Distributors Association, A. Ramachandran, said these measures were intended to avoid disputes over the number of cylinders supplied. Most of the enquiries from customers, he said, were about the price of the non-subsidised cylinder.

Angry Monk !

There was a monk who was bad tempered. He lived in an ashram but found it difficult to get along with the ashramites. He decided to leave and live a secluded life in the forest. He thought he could thus overcome anger. In the beginning, he found peace and tranquillity within. He was happy.

One day, he went to the river to fill a jug of water. As he placed the jug on the ground, it toppled over. He picked it up and filled it again. Again, the jug toppled down. He repeated the process a number of times, until finally he lost his temper and smashed the jug to pieces. Then it was that he realised his mistake.
I left the ashram, he confessed to himself, only to control my anger, but anger has followed me even here into the forest.

It is not individuals or situations that cause anger. It is your own reaction or response to individuals and situations that determines whether you will be angry or otherwise. Therefore, develop the will to control anger.

Mechanic v Doctor Story

A mechanic, was removing a cylinder head from a Harley-Davidson motorbike, when he spotted a world-famous heart surgeon in his garage. The heart surgeon was waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his bike.

Allan, the Mechanic shouted across the garage, 'Hey Doc can I ask you a question?'

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to Allan.
Allan straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, 'So Doc, look at this engine. I also can open hearts, take valves out, fix'em, put in new parts and when I finish this will work just like a new one. So how come I work for a pittance and you get the really big money, when you and I are doing basically the same work?'

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over and whispered in Allan's ear, 'Try doing it with the engine running.'

Alexander the Great's Last 3 Wishes

Alexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home. On the way, he fell ill and it took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his face, Alexander realized how his conquests, his great army, his sharp sword and all his wealth were of no consequence.

He now longed to reach home to see his mother's face and bid her his last adieu. But, he had to accept the fact that his sinking health would not permit him to reach his distant homeland.

So, the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly waiting to breathe his last. He called his generals and said, "I will depart from this world soon, I have three wishes, please carry them out without fail."

With tears flowing down their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king's last wishes.
1) "My first desire is that", said Alexander,
"My physicians alone must" carry my coffin."
2) After a pause, he continued,
"Secondly, I desire that when my coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected in my treasury".
3) The king felt exhausted after saying this. He took a minute's rest and continued.
"My third and last wish is that both my hands be kept dangling out of my coffin".

The people who had gathered there wondered at the king's strange wishes. But no one dared bring the question to their lips.. Alexander's favorite general kissed his hand and pressed them to his heart.
"O king, we assure you that all your wishes will be fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange wishes?"

At this Alexander took a deep breath and said:
"I would like the world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt.

Lessons to be learnt from last 3 wishes of King Alexander...

I want my physicians to carry my coffin because people should realize that no doctor on this earth can really cure any body. They are powerless and cannot save a person from the clutches of death.

So let not people take life for granted.

The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the path to the graveyard is to tell People that not even a fraction of gold will come with me. I spent all my life Greed of Power, earning riches but cannot take anything with me.

Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to chase wealth.

And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I wish people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty handed I go out of this world".

With these words, the king closed his eyes.

Soon he let death conquer him and breathed his last. . . .

LESSON TO LEARN:

Remember, your Health is in your own hands, look after it.

Wealth is only meaningful if you can share and also enjoy

While you are still alive, kicking & healthy.

What you do for yourself, dies with you.

But what you do for others will live for ever.

Leave the “Legacy” behind.

God has plans and justice for everyone....

Once there was a sweeper in a well known temple and he was very sincere and devoted.

Every time he saw thousands of devotees coming to take darshan of the Lord, he thought that the Lord is standing all the time and giving darshan and He must be feeling very tired.

So one day very innocently he asked the Lord whether he can take the place of the Lord for a day so that the Lord can have some relief and rest. The Deity of Temple replied, "I do not mind taking a break.
I will transform you like Myself, but you must do one thing.
you must just stand here like Me, smile at everyone and just give benedictions.
Do not interfere with anything and do not say anything.

Remember you are the deity and you just have faith that I have a master plan for everything "
The sweeper agreed to this.

The next day the sweeper took the position of the deity and a rich man came and prayed to the Lord.
He offered a nice donation and prayed that his business should be prosperous.
While going, the rich man inadvertently left his wallet full of money right there.
Now the sweeper in the form of deity could not call him and
so he decided to control himself and keep quiet.

Just then a poor man came and he put one coin in the Hundi and
said that it was all he could afford and he prayed to the Lord
that he should continue to be engaged in the Lord's service.
He also said that his family was in dire need of some basic needs
but he left it to the good hands of the Lord to give some solution.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the wallet left by the rich man.
The poor man thanked the Lord for His kindness and took the wallet very innocently.
The sweeper in the form of the Deity could not say anything and he had to just keep smiling.

At that point a sailor walked in. He prayed for his safe journey as he was going on a long trip.
Just then the rich man came with the police and said that somebody has stolen his wallet
and seeing the sailor there, he asked the police to arrest him thinking that he might have taken it.
Now the sweeper in the form of Deity wanted to say that the sailor is not the thief but he could
not say so and he became greatly frustrated.
The sailor looked at the Lord and asked why he, an innocent person, is being punished.
The rich man looked at the Lord and thanked Him for finding the thief.
The sweeper in the deity form could no more tolerate and he thought that
even if the real Lord had been here, he would have definitely interfered
and hence he started speaking and said that the sailor is not the thief but
it was the poor man who took away the wallet. The rich man was very thankful as also the sailor.

In the night, the real Lord came and He asked the sweeper how the day was.
The sweeper said, "I thought it would be easy, but now I know that Your days are not easy,
but I did one good thing." Then he explained the whole episode to the Lord.
The Lord became very upset on hearing this whereas the sweeper thought
the Lord would appreciate him for the good deed done.

The Lord asked, "Why did you not just stick to the plan?
You had no faith in Me. Do you think that I do not understand the hearts of all those who come here?
All the donation which the rich man gave was all stolen money and it is only a fraction of what he
really has and he wants Me to reciprocate unlimitedly.
The single coin offered by the poor man was the last coin he was having and he gave it to Me out of faith.
The sailor might not have done anything wrong,
but if the sailor were to go in the ship that night he was about to die
because of bad weather and instead if he is arrested he would be in the jail
and he would have been saved form a greater calamity.
The wallet should go to the poor man because he will use it in My service.
I was going to reduce the rich man's karma also by doing this and save the sailor also.
But you cancelled everything because you thought you know My plan and you made your own plans."
Moral:
God has plans and justice for everyone....

Actor ‘Power Star’ Srinivasan held for fraud

CHENNAI: Actor 'Power Star' Srinivasan was on Friday arrested on charges of cheating a businessman of Rs 65 lakh.

He was arrested on a complaint from G U Balasubramanian, proprietor of RBS International in Chrompet, to city police Commissioner J K Tripathy that the actor had taken the money after promising to get him a 10 crore loan. Balasubramanian said he never got the loan.

Police said Balasubramanian had approached the actor's finance company, Baba Trading, on Poonamalle High Road to arrange the cash to help him expand his business six months ago. The actor told the businessman that he would charge 5% as service charge for getting the loan. Subsequently he took the money claiming that the amount is towards documentation charges and commission.

"He failed to obtain the loan and kept dodging the businessman. He promised to return the sum when the complainant warned him of approaching us," said an investigating officer. Bala Surbamanian in his complaint alleged that he was threatened at gunpoint when he approached Srinivasan at his Anna Nagar residence.

Police have registered a case under IPC Section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) 27 Arms Act. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Puzhal prison. Police said several others had earlier gone to them with complaints against Srinivasan, but they all arrived at a compromise. On May 4, a Saidapet resident called Ganesan lodged a complaint that Srinivasan had taken 10 lakh promising a loan.

Srinivasan is a physician who directed and acted in the movie Lathika (2011). He later made guest appearances in movies like 'Mandapam,' 'Unakkaga Oru Kavithai,' 'Neethana Avan' and 'Indrasena.' He is working on the film 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Asaiya' with Santhanam in the lead role.

Why Winners Keep Winning

Winning is indeed a habit… It is not a coincidence that Winners keep winning. If you closely look at winners, you will tend to observe a behavior pattern that helps them or in fact keeps them winning. Here are the top 6 habits as to why Winners Keep Winning

Why We Shout In Anger?

A Hindu saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled 'n asked.

'Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?'

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'

'But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner.' asked the saint

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples.
Finally the saint explained, .

'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'

The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper 'n they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other 'n that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

He looked at his disciples and said.

'So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.'

86 arrested in US consulate attack in Chennai: Police

Chennai: Eighty-six people were arrested on Friday after a group of several hundred Muslim protesters threw stones and smashed windows at the US consulate in the Indian city of Chennai, police said.

"They smashed the window panes, surveillance camera and tried to scale over the compound wall, but we dispersed them while exercising restraint," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity. "We made 86 arrests."

The violence flared during a protest organised by the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, an Islamist movement, against an anti-Islam film which has triggered similar protests in large parts of the Muslim world.

The protesters also burnt an effigy of US President Barack Obama and an American flag, police said.

One group hurled stones, while others lifted iron barricades placed in front of the main gate to smash windows, police said.

"We have tightened the security and the situation is well under control," JK Tripathy, the police commissioner in the southern city, told local reporters.

One of the organisers said that what had been planned as a peaceful protest was hijacked by militants.

"We wanted to organise a peaceful demonstration to express our dismay over the film, but the youngsters, who could not hold their nerves, ran and attacked the consulate office," Gunangudi Hanifa told AFP.

A spokesman for the consulate, who did not give his name, said that no staff had been hurt in the attack.

"No one was injured and all the staff members are safe," he said.

3 suffer burns in LPG leak fire

In yet another tragedy involving gas leak in Chennai, three persons including a 60-year-old woman suffered serious burn injuries at Porur Friday morning.

The incident happened in a ground floor apartment on Arunachala Main Road in Ambal Nagar in Porur where software professional couple Jaganathan and Jeeva lived with Jagannathan’s mother Siveneswari and brothers-in-law Gopi, 18, an engineering student, and Aravind Kumar, 20, who works in a private firm in the city.

The gas had leaked from the additional cylinder kept in the hall of the two bedroom flat on Thursday night. “The gas had filled the hall and the bedroom where Siveneswari, Gopi and Aravind Kumar were sleeping.
At 5.30 am, the place caught fire possibly caused by a spark when some electric equipment was switched on,” the police said. Siveneswari, Gopi and Aravind Kumar suffered burn injuries and were rushed to hospital in Porur.

Jaganathan, Jeeva and their three-year-old child escaped ass they were sleeping in the other bedroom.
“As the ambulance failed to arrive quickly, Jagannthan fetched an autorickshaw and took the injured to hospital,” said one of the neighbours. Hospital sources said Sivaneswari suffered 80 per cent burns, while other two suffered 40 per cent burns.
The furniture in the hall and bedroom, the television set and computer were damaged in the fire.
Meanwhile, the toll in the gas leak fire in Thirumangalam on Wednesday evening rose to four on Friday with the death of Ravi.
Three others, including his sister and college-going nephew, had died on Wednesday night itself.
Need to educate users on safety
The recent mishaps in the city caused by LPG cylinder leaks has emphasised the need to educate consumers about safe handling of gas cylinders, with distributors pointing out that 95 per cent of accidents involving gas cylinders could be prevented.
Gas distributors attributed the recent accidents to carelessness of consumers and say that every consumer should be aware of the safety guidelines. Consumers, who are supposed to insist on safety inspection, are not present in most cases during installation, claimed distributors.
“The problem is that the majority of users do not check for the safety cap on the cylinder. It is specifically designed to prevent gas leaks. If consumers have a spare cylinder they should ensure that it is sealed with a safety cap. They can also opt for the preferred time delivery service,” said A. Ramachandran, a distributor.
“When people smell the gas leak, they should open the windows immediately. Homemakers who wake up early in the morning should first open the kitchen windows before turning on an electric switch,” said a fire safety officer. Homemakers were quick to voice support for the preferred time delivery scheme.
“If the delivery is on time, we will definitely avoid housing a spare cylinder. Our main concern is timely delivery and it will be good if all the companies issue safety measure pamphlets on every delivery,” said A. Geetha Vani, a homemaker.

Consumers make 60 calls per day
LPG complaint cells are flooded with calls, according to one cell run by a public sector company that says nearly 60 calls of gas leaks are received every day.

"On a average we receive up to 60 calls a day. During peak delivery time, we receive up to 80 calls," one person manning one such compliant cell told Deccan Chronicle on Friday.

Some customers allege that they always receive a busy tone when they call these toll-free numbers. Consumers also lament that the website where they can register their complaints online does not seem to work.

"If there is a gas leak in our house, we expect an immediate response. However, we are often forced to personally go to a gas agency and get a person home to take care of the situation," a housewife from Perambur said.

The complaint cell of a gas agency claimed that they would ask technicians to attend to calls as quickly as possible.

Tamil Nadu buses to have GPS-based e-ticketing

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has invited bids from IT firms to implement a GPS-based e-ticketing system with hand-held devices in all state transport corporation buses.

"The objective of the project is to modernise existing passenger ticketing system with the help of information technology to provide maximum benefits to the travelling public and the transport corporations," a senior official in the transport department said.

He said the government would purchase 43,987 GPS-enabled electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) and set up support infrastructure at 285 depots and eight divisions. A central control room will monitor the system from Chennai.

The system will help conductors issue tickets using ETMs equipped with thermal printers.

An automatically generated management information system will help the STU managements keep a tab on sales and evolve policies accordingly, said the official.

Such data would be available for traffic, technical, administration and accounts managers in the STUs. Besides, the system will help the control room spot the exact location of the bus during its journey.

Eight transport undertakings across the state have a fleet of over 21,000 buses. They carry about two crore passengers daily. Average daily collection is 18.09 crore, while yearly collection is more than 6,500 crore.

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission on Wednesday announced that Group II re-examinations would be conducted on November 4. The TNPSC had cancelled the Group II examination held across the state over a month ago following allegations of a question paper leak. Building owners get last chance

The state government has decided to give a final ‘opportunity’ for owners of over 20,000 unauthorised buildings, including 17,000 residential buildings in the Chennai metropolitan area, for regularisation.

After a lull, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has started despatching ‘opportunity’ letters to the owners who had applied for regularising their buildings during 1999-2002. The letter sought the owners to submit proof that the construction was completed before the cut-off date, 1999, or else it would have to face the sledgehammer.

“This is to provide an opportunity to the owners to save their buildings. They have to clarify their status, based on which further action would be taken,” sources in CMDA told DC.

A senior official said 20,000 applications were received during 1999-2002 when the government had decided to provide respite to unauthorised constructions in CMA. “As many as 6,000 applications had been received from building owners in 1999 when the scheme was introduced and had escalated to 20,000 in the year 2000, and gone past 25,000 in 2002.”

Of this, 20,000 buildings would be taken up for action and CMDA plans to send letters to 3,500 commercial complexes initially and 17,000 residential buildings soon after. “If they provide evidence that it was built before the cut-off date, they can avoid action failing which they would face demolition.

Documents, including electricity bills, property tax, CMDA action taken reports, metro water bills can be presented as evidence,” the official said.

The Madras high court had earlier directed the authorities to regularise only buildings that were constructed before 28.2.1999 provided the owners had applied for regularisation before 30.6.2002, the date till when the government had extended

More teeth to enforcement wing of monitoring committee
The high court appointed monitoring committee constituted to take decisions on unauthorised constructions in Chennai and suburbs has decided to restructure its enforcement wing to make it more efficient. Besides, it has also resolved to initiate action against unauthorised buildings during construction itself.

A monitoring committee member, after a hour-long meeting, told DC that it had been decided to take action in a combined manner involving officials of CMDA, corporation and local bodies.

He added that officials would be held accountable for any unauthorised constructions in their jurisdiction and cannot simply pass the buck on others.

“Earlier, authorities used to take action or issue warning notices only after the completion of buildings. But, the monitoring committee has decided to direct officials to take action immediately if any violation was found.

Simple Solutiont to Solve Ants Problem

Ants Problem

Ants hate cucumbers.
Keep the skin of cucumbers near the place or ant hole

You Have No Reason to Waste "RESOURCES".

This may or may not be a True Story, but it gives us a very important Lesson in life.

Germany is a highly industrialised country. It produces top brands like Benz, BMW, Siemens etc. The nuclear reactor pump is made in a small town in this country. In such a country, many will think its people lead a
luxurious life. At least that was my impression before my study trip.

When I arrived at Hamburg , my colleagues who work in Hamburg arranged a welcome party for me in a restaurant. As we walked into the restaurant, we noticed that a lot of tables were empty. There was a table where a young couple was having their meal. There were only two dishes and two cans of drinks on the table. I wondered if such simple meal could be romantic.

There were a few old ladies on another table. When a dish is served, the waiter would distribute the food for them, and they would finish every bit of the food on their plates.

We did not pay much attention to them, as we were looking forward to the dishes we ordered. As we were hungry, our local colleague ordered more food for us. As the restaurant was quiet, the food came quite fast. Since there were other activities arranged for us, we did not spend much time dining. When we left, there was still about one third of unconsumed food on the table.

When we were leaving the restaurant, we heard someone calling us. We noticed the old ladies in the restaurant were talking about us to the restaurant owner. When they spoke to us in English, we understood that they were unhappy about us wasting so much food. We immediately felt that they were really being too busybody.

“We paid for our food, it is none of your business how much food we left behind,” my colleague Gui told the old ladies. The old ladies were furious. One of them immediately took her hand phone out and made a call to someone. After a while, a man in uniform claimed to be an officer from the Social Security organisation arrived.

Upon knowing what the dispute was, he issued us a 50 Euro fine. We all kept quiet. The local colleague took out a 50 Euro note and repeatedly apologized to the officer.

The officer told us in a stern voice,

Stop writing news about Manmadhan 2: Simbu

There have been many speculations about Silambarasan's pet project Manmadhan 2. It was reported that South Indian big names including Trisha Krishnan, Ileana D'Cruz, Tamanna Bhatia were part of the movie.

The buzz also claimed that he had roped in AR Rahman to compose the music. However, all these reports have turned out to be false, as Simbu clarified that the reports are untrue.

Simbu was bombarded by questions from his fans on Twitter regarding the project. It made him to announce that the selection process of cast and crew has not been started for Manmadhan 2. "I pls request media to stop writting news abt Manmadhan 2 because nothing has been confirmed yet and I have to finish the script work 1st."

However, Silambarasan will be reportedly producing and directing Manmadhan 2 apart from playing dual roles in the proposed film. He has also taken the responsibility of penning the lyrics for the upcoming Tamil movie, which is a sequel to 2004 hit film Manmadhan. Meanwhile, the actor is busy with Podaa Podi, Vaalu and Vettai Mannan.

Sasikumar's new film runs into title trouble

A stay order has been issued against the use of the title of the film 'Sundarapandian', scheduled to release on September 14. The order follows a petition  filed in the city civil court by Jupiter Film Makers, who claim to have produced a movie with the same title way back in the ’90s.

Director Sasikumar plays the lead role in new film, which has newcomer Lakshmi Menon, Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in supporting roles. Sasikumar’s  Company Productions has produced the film.

A stay order was passed on Monday, following plaintiff Jupiter Film Makers’ claim that they had already made a film in 1998 with the same title, with Karthik, Heera, Vadievelu and Manivannan in important roles.

Director and producer of the Karthik-flick, Raghu, said, “We completed the film in 1998, but couldn’t release it then due to financial problems. But the movie released in 1999 on Deepavali day in a few centres like Salem, Tiruchy and Tanjore.”

Raghu claimed that he wanted to release the film in other centres and sell the satellite rights, when he came to know that Company Productions was making a movie with the same title.

“I tried several times to reach Sasikumar but couldn’t,” he said. Company Productions can either change the title or go for a compromise to avoid delay in releasing the film. Producer Sasikumar was not available for comment.

Udayakumar whisked away by supporters

A day after protests and clashes, Idinthakarai on Tuesday witnessed emotional scenes as PMANE coordinator S P Udayakumar appeared among the anti-Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant agitators around 4 pm on the premises of Lourdh Matha church in the village. Many women broke down after Udayakumar said that he would court arrest to save the people protesting the commissioning of the plant.

“I will court arrest to save the villagers from police attack. I hope that I will not be killed in prison and return after some days,” Udayakumar said.

A few others, who did not want him to court arrest, forcibly took him and activist Pushparayan to a boat and asked them to leave the spot immediately, while a 3,000-strong group was staging a dharna and another group continued the indefinite fast on the church premises in Idinthakarai.

Dhoni happy with Yuvraj's return to international cricket

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni says that Yuvraj Singh can draw confidence from his performance against New Zealand in Tuesday's Twenty20 as he made a return to international cricket after a grim battle with rare germ cell cancer.

In his first international match in 10 months, Yuvraj bowled two overs for 14 runs and struck an aggressive 34 off 26 balls at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

India though lost the match by one run but Dhoni was happy with the way Yuvraj made his return to international cricket.

Dhoni feels the game will give Yuvraj the much needed confidence ahead of the World Twenty20.
"From tomorrow, he can do whatever he wants to. It's just about giving that individual a bit of space so that he can think about what he needs to do. Especially given that he is playing after 10 months, you will put pressure on him because he doesn't know where he stands. Now that he has done well, he can do whatever he wants," Dhoni said.

Dhoni said Yuvraj brings a balance to the team with his all-round skills.

"It was a big game for him. All the eyes were on him. It was good to see him on the field. I personally feel that he gives us the right kind of balance we need," he said.

Dhoni also said that Yuvraj's left-arm spin brings a variation to the bowling attack.

"Of course he is not someone who will bowl all four overs in a T20 game but I can use his variations. If you see our bowling line up, we have to play with four specialist bowlers and the fifth bowler will be all these part timers," he said.

Dhoni said it is time for Yuvraj to forget everything about his ailment.

"Once you go onto the field you don't think about all these things. I have always believed that if some of these things happen, you should try to keep it simple. You will get in and play big knocks. We all know his batting is among the best in the world so I am really happy for him," he said.

Fruit, veggie prices drop at Koyambedu

Prices of fruits and vegetables have come down at the premium wholesale market complex in Koyambedu, thanks to the commencement of the crop season in different parts of the country.

While the vegetable rates have dropped by approximately 20 per cent this week, prices of fruits like apple, banana and mosambi were reduced as less as about 50 per cent, traders claimed.

According to S Chandran, president of the Koyambedu Periyar Wholesale Vegetable Market Merchants, the market received 550 trucks, each carrying 10 tonnes of vegetables, on Monday.

“The arrival of vegetables  increased following the beginning of the crop season in the neighbouring states. For instance, if a trader from Oddanchatram in Dindigul district was sending 100 gunny bags of vegetables to Karnataka till last month, he would have reduced it by half as the yield in Karnataka would meet the local demand,” he said. Henceforth, the remaining 50 bags are diverted to the wholesale market in Chennai, contributing to the drop in vegetable prices, he added.

Currently, brinjal is sold anywhere between Rs 5 and Rs 8 per kilogram, while it was priced at Rs 10 10 days ago. Likewise, radish is now sold at a price range between Rs 6 and Rs 8, yam at Rs 18, carrot at Rs 15 and drumstick fir Rs 13. But onions and double beans continue to be sold at a static price of Rs 10 and Rs 40, respectively, Chandran said.

There is a marked difference in the rates of certain fruit varieties when compared with last month’s prices. Srinivasan, president of the Chennai Fruit Commission Agents Association, said that a kilogram of apple from Shimla was sold anywhere between Rs 80 and Rs120, which was a considerable dip.

“Shimla apples were sold at around Rs 225 per kilogram, about a month ago. The increase in the number of apples at the Koyambedu because of the good yield in Himachal Pradesh, the prices have dropped significantly,” he said. On an average, 300 tonnes of apple reach the Koyambedu market for sale by truck, he added.

The juicy mosambi and fibre-rich bananas cost less due to their abundant arrival from Andhra Pradesh and central Tamil Nadu, respectively. “The cyclone-hit Cuddalore district is back to business and is producing bananas to send it to the city market,” Srinivasan said.
