Udayakumar whisked away by supporters

A day after protests and clashes, Idinthakarai on Tuesday witnessed emotional scenes as PMANE coordinator S P Udayakumar appeared among the anti-Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant agitators around 4 pm on the premises of Lourdh Matha church in the village. Many women broke down after Udayakumar said that he would court arrest to save the people protesting the commissioning of the plant.

“I will court arrest to save the villagers from police attack. I hope that I will not be killed in prison and return after some days,” Udayakumar said.

A few others, who did not want him to court arrest, forcibly took him and activist Pushparayan to a boat and asked them to leave the spot immediately, while a 3,000-strong group was staging a dharna and another group continued the indefinite fast on the church premises in Idinthakarai.
