19 'terrorists' held on Day 2 of mock drill

CHENNAI: The city police nabbed eight 'terrorists' who tried to sneak into Chennai Harbour on Thursday, the second day of Operation Hamla-3 .

The arrested men were among the 19 caught across the state during the exercise, designed to check the terror-preparedness of the state. The operation began on Wednesday and will continue till Friday.

Early on Thursday, police personnel near the Chennai Harbour check point on Rajaji Salai nabbed eight 'terrorists' , who were actually commandos, trying to enter the harbour. "Though we cannot reveal the developments of the 'Operation' now, most of the 'terrorists' were nabbed by the police and other agencies," a senior police officer said.

Following the Mumbai terror strikes in 2008, the Tamil Nadu police have regularly tested their preparedness to fight terrorism . First came 'Operation Barricade' , followed by 'Operation Rakshak' , Operation Hamla-1 and Operation Hamla-2 , all within a period of six months.
