A student of a private school near Velur in the district was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his school's hostel in the early hours of Sunday.
According to police, the boy who was hailing from a village near Bodinayakanur in Theni district, was homesick as his parents had forcibly put him in hostel after the school reopened on Wednesday.
The boy wanted to go to school from home and asked his parents to take him back home, the police said quoting his friends and school sources. On Saturday evening, he called up his home from a public booth and told his parents to take him back. His mother promised to meet him in the hostel on Sunday.
His mother who was on her way to meet her son was informed of the incident.
The body was taken to the Velur Government Hospital for post-mortem.
