Fire in SEZ factory in Sriperumbudur, no casualty

A fire broke out today in a factory located at the Special Economic Zone in Sriperumbudur, about 40 km from here, officials said.

“No one was injured in the fire at Perlos factory, a vendor company of mobile manufacturer Nokia,” Divisional Fire Officer, Kancheepuram, Parthiban said, adding the blaze was brought under control.
A Nokia release said its manufacturing facility and facilities of its other suppliers within the SEZ were safe and unimpacted.

“Production at the Nokia factory continues,” the release said.

The fire, which broke out at 11.30 am, was put out after two hours, fire service personnel said.
The Perlos unit does the painting and finishing of the boxes and shells for Nokia. The fire is said to have been caused by electrical leak in a nearby waste storage room and spread to the adjacent paint storage room, officials said.

The damage to the unit has not yet been ascertained, police said, adding two persons suffered minor injuries and were treated as outpatients at the Sriperumbudur hospital.
