Karunanidhi asks Rajinikanth to focus on health

A day after superstar Rajnikanth told Chief Minister Jayalalithaa that Tamil Nadu was “saved” after her party won the recent assembly polls, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Thursday spoke to the actor asking him to focus on his health and “not to consider anything else.” “You have faced so many ups and downs in life. It is important that you take care of your health. You should not consider anything (else) big,” Mr. Karunanidhi said in his telephonic conversation with the 61-year-old actor.

A DMK release here said that the 88 year-old party patriarch expressed happiness at the improvement of Mr. Rajnikanth’s health, who was discharged from a Singapore hospital on Wednesday, and hoped for his early return to Chennai.

In his first interaction with Ms. Jayalalithaa after he was discharged, the superstar had said that the state had been “saved” following her massive mandate, according to a state government release on Wednesday.

The DMK suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of AIADMK-led front in the April 13 assembly polls, that saw the party pushed to a third spot in the state Assembly, even failing to qualify to become Principal Opposition party.

Mr. Rajinikanth, who had not been keeping well for sometime, was hospitalised in Chennai twice for different health conditions, including respiratory problems and was later shifted to Singapore for treatment for a reported kidney ailment.
